The dibenzocyclooctyne group (DBCO) reacts with molecules containing azide groups (â€“N3) in a Copper-free Click Chemistry. DBCO has very high reaction selectivity toward azide, enabling its use in modifying biomolecules including peptide, protein, enzyme, live cells, whole organisms etc. At physiological temperature and pH ranges, the DBCO group does not react with amine or hydroxyl, and DBCO also reacts with the azide group much faster than with free thiol groups. DBCO is also known as ADIBO (= Azadibenzocyclooctyne) or DIBAC (= Dibenzoazacyclooctyne).
