Description

Biotin-P188-Biotin or Biotin-F68-Biotin.

P188 copolymer refers to Pluronic F68, a non-ionic, amphiphilic triblock copolymer widely recognized in pharmaceutical, biomedical, and industrial formulations. It is formally designated as poloxamer 188. The following presents a structured analysis of its composition, properties, and applications, derived from authoritative chemical and scientific sources. Chemical Structure and Composition: Pluronic F68 exhibits a linear ABA triblock structure with the formula HO(CH₂CH₂O)₇₅(CH₂CH(CH₃)O)₃₀(CH₂CH₂O)₇₅H, or EO₇₅PO₃₀EO₇₅, where: EO represents ethylene oxide (poly(ethylene oxide), PEO; hydrophilic segments), PO represents propylene oxide (poly(propylene oxide), PPO; hydrophobic segment). Key specifications include: Average molecular weight: Approximately 8,400 Da. Hydrophilic content: ~80% PEO by weight, conferring high water solubility. CAS Number: 9003-11-6.

Properties

Poloxamers  are triblock  copolymers of PEO)and PPO available in different molecular weights and PPO/PEO ratios. The presence of PEO and PPO blocks in a single polymer chain gives rise to essentially amphiphilic molecules. This ability to form micelles  and liquid-crystalline phases is strongly temperature dependent since increasing the temperature allows self-association which decreases the critical micelle concentration (CMC).

Another important property of Poloxamers is their thermogelling behavior: water dispersions of some of these polymers are generally in the liquid phase at low temperatures but become a strong gel at increased temperatures.
